Is seeking personal-development counseling looked at as normal?
does it come off like i am a psycho or have some mental issues? i just want to get over a few negative traits and fears i have to be a better person overall. i would like to be more confident and get over certain relationship insecurities i can’t fix by myself.
It is very normal to seek counseling and nobody even has to know that you go. Actually a lot of "normal" people go to counseling anyway. To me your problems seem like something talking to a close friend and working on it yourself should fix. But it’s all up to you whether you need to seek professional help or not. It also depends on if you can afford it and how much money you can spend on the sessions. But no people won’t think you’re psycho for going.

no one seems "normal" by society’s standards.
seeking counseling is a responsible thing to do.
most of society isn’t responsible…. so in that way, it might not be the normal thing to do…
normal isn’t good, being yourself is.

As far as you first question goes, what’s so good about being "normal"?! Look at a newspaper or any other source of current events. The disarray and destruction in this world have been created by people who consider themselves normal.
Your statement of "getting over some negative traits and fears to be a better person" is a perfect reason to see a counselor. That’s what the world needs—people who want to improve their lives BEFORE they develop some real self-destructive traits.
