When you received hypnosis as one avenue towards personal development in what ways did it help you?

I personally feel hypnosis is awesome in my experience. What was yours like?

I’m like Texas Rose. I’ve been seeing my psychiatrist for years and in therapy we worked on a lot of issues. I was having trouble losing weight on my own and getting into an exercise program. We decided to try hypnosis to "encourage" me and to help me get over some self-esteem issues that were blocking my progress. The really great part of that session wasn’t about weight loss–in fact, we never even discussed it. After I was "under" my psychiatrist asked if there was anything that I wanted to talk about first. I just sat there quietly, with tears streaming down my face (I was perfectly fine before this question), dripping onto my blouse, etc. for a couple minutes and then said quietly, "I don’t love him anymore"–referring to a long-time relationship. It was a big surprise to my doctor and to me. Afterwards I realized that I had felt dissatisfaction with the relationship and was hanging on to it out of habit and probably fear of being alone. Once that was out in the open we discussed it in future sessions and the weight began to come off and I started exercising regularly. Awesome isn’t the word to describe how I felt. I think it was so great in part, though, because my psychiatrist had been trained in hypnosis and had the skills to ask the right questions after my revelation.

Great question–thanks for making me feel better about myself tonight. It’s been a bad day, but if I got through that experience, then I just have to realize today is almost over.

I did it to lose weight, and to learn how to eat chocolate like a normal person. Man….he was good. And I lost 35 pounds. Each session left me feeling relaxed and rested. And some of what this guy(a Dr.) told me has stuck to this very day. It really changed my life forever.
